ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Volunteerism runs in this family's blood, as we introduced you to her husband yesterday as a Jefferson Award winner. Today we shine a spotlight on Roberta Brewer, as her dedication earns her her own Jefferson Award.
You can normally find her in the gift shop at Lima Memorial Health System. Roberta Brewer retired from the hospital but wanted to give back and decided to start volunteering with the volunteer auxiliary. She has been helping out wherever she is needed for more than a decade now.
"I volunteer because I like to volunteer. I like to give back. Not only to my customers here at the gift shop but the community, the hospital as well. It keeps you busy, and it makes you feel good that you're here. I don't need paid. I've been blessed and I just enjoy what I do here," said Roberta Brewer, 2024 Jefferson Award winner.
Fellow volunteer and gift shop coordinator, Jessica Eutsler, nominated Brewer because of her countless hours and dedication to the hospital. She is that link that keeps everything and everyone held together.
"She's just always giving back to someone. Always willing to come in and cover a shift that needs to be covered, even if it means that she's here multiple days in a row. We just know that we can lean on her and always know that she'll help us in any way that she possibly can," explained Jessica Eutsler, who nominated Roberta.
Brewer somehow finds the time to be active in her community as well. She volunteers to help with many of the village of Harrod's events and works to preserve its history.
"We have a small town, but boy, we're just bustling over there. We invite you to come to our pork rind festival. I'm very involved in that. I'm involved with our Auglaize Township Historical Society. We've been doing the festival for over 30 years; it brings a lot of people into our community," said Roberta Brewer.
A community that Brewer loves dearly. Her list of volunteer duties tops over a dozen, and she says she will keep helping out as long as she can. Roberta Brewer, a 2024 Jefferson Award winner.
