Friday afternoon, Allen East held its 30th academic lottery to reward their students who were on the AB honor roll or those who had perfect attendance. The names of 260 students were placed in a lottery wheel and randomly chosen to win a range of prizes, such as iPads, TVs, gift cards, and Playstations. The event was originally started by Don Dunbar, a former faculty member and the tradition is still going strong today.

"A lot of negativity gets put on students nowadays and I just think that something positive like this, it rewards them for doing their best is a good thing. They are super excited, they look forward to this all year long so this is a really good day for them," said Judy Roberson, Allen East secretary.

Lima area businesses and parents of the students donated over $8,500 worth of prizes to the lottery.
