According to the Allen County Emergency Management Agency, flash flooding is currently on the radar as we move into the weekend.

The EMA encourages people to stay tuned to the local media and to monitor the Alert Allen County app, which provides flooding and road conditions alerts. The agency also suggests that families always have a flooding plan and to not drive through flooding water.

“If you see any water over the roadways the old standard was six to 12 inches of rain or moving water could sweep a car off of the roadway,” said Travis Fillhart, Allen County EMA assistant director. “We encourage people to not drive through it. Please turn around and choose an alternative route. We don’t want to see any cars stuck or any pedestrians stuck in the water.”

Someone who drove into flooding water had to be rescued from their vehicle in Mercer County, Wednesday. The Allen County EMA said turning around when there is flooding can prevent situations like this.
