May 15, 2024, Press Release from the Allen County Family and Children First Council: Allen County Family & Children First Council announces The Healing Power of Empathy & Connection, a 3-hour trauma-informed training scheduled for Tues. May 28, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at The Ohio State University Lima campus. Mary Vicario, founder of Finding Hope Consulting, will share language and interventions that bring neurobiology to life for youth with trauma history or who are neurodivergent. A part of the Facilitating Healing, Resiliency and Hope Series, this session will provide a framework including three stages of positive trauma resolution and five resilience factors identified in those overcoming traumatic experiences.

Cost for the training is $50 and includes Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board Continuing Education credits.  Parents, foster parents, kinship caregivers may attend without charge due to sponsorship from CareSource Managed Care. Mary Vicario began her career as an elementary educator in Montessori and traditional schools, moved into school counseling and then into agency work specializing in trauma survivors. Finding Hope Consulting provides “theory to practice” consultations for systems of care organizations. She has been part of several Strong Families, Safe Communities Grants through the Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services (OMHAS) and the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (ODODD) to further develop trauma informed curricula and link trauma informed communities in Ohio. She has also been active in the clinical implementation of several Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grants. Mary is co-author of the Foster Parents' Survival Guide; a workbook of everyday interventions based on the neuroscience of healing to assist anyone working with or caring for survivors of complex trauma.
