The Allen County Safe Community Coalition teamed up with the UNOH Racers for a fun and educational event to kick off the "Click It or Ticket" national campaign.
Each May, the event raises awareness to help the public remember to always wear a seatbelt.
As part of the event, UNOH students joined in a four-team relay race to test their ability to buckle up.
"I lost two good friends in the end of 2019 when we all graduated. One was a seat belt crash. One was a motorcycle crash. I think it's important to go back into the community, remind those that those seatbelts do matter. Also, being aware of your surroundings, being smart while you're on the roads, and then take that with them. Tell their friends family, and hopefully it makes an impact, not just in our community, but in the nation as well," Trooper Draven Shaefer of the Lima Highway Patrol Post said.
Nearly half of the more than one thousand Ohioans killed in traffic crashes last year were not wearing a seatbelt.
