LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Many Allen County high school students got out of the classroom and into the community on Friday to learn about the critical roles local agencies play in the region.
Students with the Allen Lima Youth Leadership program participated in the United Way of Greater Lima Impact Tour. The tour gives students an opportunity to see the effect various United Way-funded organizations have on the Lima community. Making stops at the Bradfield Community Center, the West Ohio Food Bank and the Lima YMCA, students explored program areas that promote education, financial stability and health.
"Anytime we have a chance to get them together and, you know, show them, not just in the classroom but in the community, and get them introduced to these good organizations. It allows them to kind of learn where they might fit in and where they could show leadership in their schools or in their lives," says Tim Sielschott, Volunteer with Allen Lima Youth Leadership.
The ALL Youth students also began their spring projects, which they will present to the Lima Rotary Club, where they will compete for a scholarship to pursue community work of their choice.
