ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Allen County Veterans Commission is helping veterans' families get a turkey or ham for the holidays.

This is the 10th year that they have been offering vouchers to Allen County Veterans for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you have gotten a voucher in the past, you can call the Veterans Commission, or they will call you to re-up your application, and those vouchers can be mailed to you. But if you haven't taken part in the program, there is a process.

"If they have never been to our office before, they will have to come in. They will have to do an application and bring their DD214. If it is a widow of a veteran, then that widow will have to bring the veteran's DD214 as well," explained Tamara Wilson, executive director of the Allen County Veterans Commission. "It's just this overwhelming good feeling being able to help people. So many people thank us and just tell us how much they appreciate it."
The Allen County Veterans Commission Office is open Monday through Friday.

They are also looking for veterans and civilians to join their volunteer corps. to help them with their outreach mission, including their operation holiday cheer on December 7th. If people want to join, they can also apply at the Allen County Veterans Commission Office, located in the Allen County Courthouse, 301 N Main Street, Lima, Ohio 45802.
