LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Allen County 4-H and Junior Fair are helping in the fight against hunger with their fourth annual Stock the Trailer event.
During the fair, departments are collecting nonperishable food items or money to purchase food for donation to the West Ohio Food Bank. The department with the highest total will win a pizza party to celebrate.
Stock the Trailer is sponsored by Farm Credit Mid-America and takes place at more than 60 fairs across Ohio to benefit food banks. Last year, the statewide program collected nearly 290,000 pounds of food to help fight hunger.
“We're excited to partner with the Junior Fair Board and the other groups that are supporting our Stock the Trailer event. And it's really nice because those kids get to see the reward at the end, and they get to go and they get to give that stuff to the West Ohio Food Bank. And then also the Junior Fair Board makes a monetary donation, and they go out and they purchase food to also add into the Stock the Trailer event,” said Kelly Cobie, Allen County 4-H educator.
In addition to Stock the Trailer, on Thursday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., anyone who donates a food item at the fair to the West Ohio Food Bank will receive $2 off gate admission.
