LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Many Allen County Fairgoers placed bets on horses Monday evening as the harness races got underway at the grandstands.
Throughout Monday evening, horses and their owners lined up at the starting line for either a one-mile pace or trot on the grandstands’ dirt track. The big race of the night was the Dunlap-Renner Memorial Signature Series Pace, featuring eight horses. Programs were also sold in the grandstands to support the Lima Noon Sertoma Club. No matter which horse fans cheered for or placed a bet on, the harness races remain a beloved tradition for many fair attendees.

“Families, especially a lot of the farmers that are here all week camping- they can come over here with their kids. They can watch these races. The races just take a few minutes, each one. It's just annual. I think they've been doing it, the races been doing it for over 25 years. I know the track's redone. It's just a staple that's a free event, too,” says Jenny Holtsberry, Chairperson for the Harness Races, Lima Noon Sertoma Club.
The harness races continue Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. with the Ohio Ladies Pace and the Allen County Supertrot.
