LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office not only has the responsibility of keeping the county safe, but once a year it also takes charge of security at the Allen County Fair.

Sheriff Matt Treglia spoke to the Lima Exchange Club on Tuesday afternoon at the fairgrounds, explaining that preparation for fair security begins in early August. The deputies and officers who work the fairgrounds do so on their own time. Many even use vacation days to help provide a fun and safe experience for fairgoers.

“So that’s our job, is to make sure there’s nobody in here messing around and causing problems for people that just want to come out here, enjoy the fair and have a good time,” Treglia said. “And so the board members don’t have to worry about it, and the vendors don’t have to worry about it, and the 4-H clubs don’t have to worry about it. We’ll take care of all the problems, just let us know where it’s happening.”

If visitors encounter an issue at the fair, they are encouraged to report it to any law enforcement officer on the grounds or to the administration building.
