LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A local agency invited the whole community to paint the town blue on Wednesday to stand up against child abuse.
Allen County Children Services participated in Wear Blue Day to raise awareness for the prevention of child abuse and neglect in our community. The day is held on the second Wednesday of every April as part of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Children Services wants to remind everyone the importance of supporting children and making sure the children in our communities are safe.
"This isn't just about blue t-shirts, it isn't about how many groups can send in pictures to us - in the end, it's about children," said Greg Sowinski, communications coordinator for ACCS. "It's about getting that message out. So if somebody does see something, they can alert us, or in some cases, alert the police as well, and then that matter can be investigated, and then we can protect the child. Work towards protection. A lot of cases, most cases, we can work towards helping that family become a stronger family so they don't need our help anymore."
You can send in photos of yourself or a group wearing blue to Allen County Children Services. Three winners will be announced on April 23rd. Details can be found on their Facebook page.
