LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Ohio dog owners have only a few days left to purchase 2026 dog tags before prices increase.
Dog tag prices vary by county. In Allen County, a one-year dog tag costs $22 if purchased on or before Jan. 31. After the deadline, the price doubles to $44. Revenue from dog tag fees supports the county dog warden’s office and helps reunite lost dogs with their owners. If a dog with a tag is found, anyone can visit the county auditor’s website to identify the owner. For those waiting until the last minute, the Allen County Dog Warden’s Office will offer Saturday hours for tag purchases.
“The 31st is on a Saturday this year. So, we are going to have some Saturday hours. We're going to be open from 10 to 2, and if you do come to the office, you'll have the tag in your hand at that time. We do checks or cash. We do not do any credit card in the office. Dog license is proof of ownership. All dogs in the state of Ohio have to be licensed at three months of age or older, or within 30 days of acquiring the dog. So, make sure you get it. It's a sure way to get your dog back home,” says Julie Shellhammer, Allen County Dog Warden.
The Allen County Dog Warden’s Office is located at 1165 Seriff Road in Lima.
