LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio honored the mentors who make its work possible during an appreciation event Thursday night.

The organization brought together staff, board members, donors, community partners and mentors to say thank you and reflect on the impact of youth mentorship across the region. Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio provides one-on-one mentorship both in schools and in the community, serving more than 600 youth in Allen County and beyond. As the organization looks ahead to the new year, leaders say one need stands out.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio honors mentors, seeks more male volunteers

“Male is where we we lack a lot. I would like to see a lot more of our men come out and be mentors, especially to our young men of color. That's where I'm seeing the lack and they need that support,” said Dr. Portia Smith, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio.
