LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The City of Lima will host one of four signature homecoming and picnic celebrations across Ohio as part of the state’s commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Sponsored by Cenovus Energy in partnership with the America 250-Ohio Commission, the free, family-friendly event will take place Saturday, June 27, from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater.

The celebration will feature a variety of activities for all ages, including a Kids Zone sponsored by Visit Greater Lima, live performances by the Lima Community Chorus and the Lima Symphony Orchestra, and an assortment of food trucks. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets, although food will also be available for purchase on-site.

Cenovus Energy, a visionary sponsor of the event, said supporting the celebration aligns with the company’s commitment to the community and its connection to Lima’s history.

“We really wanted to help the state celebrate this anniversary and this occasion. Particularly here in Lima, you know, the refinery story is an Ohio story, it's an American story, and we really wanted to be a part of that celebration and also give a little something back to the community that's been so supportive of us over our long history,” said Heather Rutz, Team Lead of U.S. Communications for Cenovus Energy.

The event’s opening ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. and will include free birthday cake sponsored by Spring and Main. The Lima Community Chorus will perform at 5 p.m., followed by the Lima Symphony Orchestra at 7 p.m.

Organizers say the picnic is designed to bring residents together to celebrate Ohio’s role in the nation’s history while creating a festive atmosphere for families and visitors. Admission is free, and the event will be alcohol-free.
