LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – With the new school year just weeks away, the Lima Salvation Army is working to ensure students have what they need to succeed.

In partnership with the Allentown Road Walmart, the organization is hosting a "Stuff the Bus" donation drive this week and next. Volunteers will be collecting school supplies Thursday through Saturday on both weekends.

The donated supplies will be distributed at the Lima City Schools’ “Back to School” Celebration on August 9th.

“It is just the collection of supplies, school supplies to help kids, local kids in the area, just get what they need. It could be anything. Backpacks are always, you know, in need. But generally, you know what Walmart has inside there you can look at different schools, the pencils, highlighters, elementary kids, more would be crayons, things like that,” said Paul Downing, operations manager at the Lima Salvation Army.

Donations will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, July 17–19 and July 24–26. In addition to the school supply drive, the Salvation Army will also have a kettle available for donations to its Christmas in July campaign.
