LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — As forecasts call for the coldest winter in more than a decade, concerns are growing about how to keep people without reliable heating options warm.
Family Promise of Lima & Allen County has stepped up to serve as a potential warming center if one is needed this winter. The organization is working alongside the Allen County Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross to determine when conditions would require the center to open.
To prepare, Family Promise is asking for help from the community to gather essential supplies needed to keep people comfortable.
“We could use financial support because we are going to have to buy blow up mattresses, blankets, pillows, things of that nature. Food, people who would want to donate maybe some food or bring in a meal or something of that nature would be very helpful,” says Bev Beery, Family Promise Board.
Planning efforts are still in the early stages but are moving quickly. Anyone interested in assisting is encouraged to contact Family Promise at 419-879-4600.
