LIMA, OH (WLIO) – A Lima City Councilman is making sure area families can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together this holiday season.
Councilman Derry Glenn announced that sign-ups for his annual turkey giveaway will take place October 28 and 29 at Heir Force Community School, located on South Main Street in Lima.
Glenn says when people sign up, they need to bring two forms of identification, including proof of the number of children in the household. He has a goal of giving away around 500 turkeys this year and is seeking help from organizations and businesses to adopt families to meet that goal.
“I always wanted the family to stay at home and eat. I want everybody, I want to bring that closeness back to family. Every year I bring that up. That's the reason why I'm doing this. So, we hoping that Lima would show their hometown pride helping us out. Some of the companies want to donate, sponsor family, just give me a call. Make sure that family get a turkey,” said Derry Glenn, Lima’s 6th Ward councilman.
