LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Crime Stoppers of Lima, Allen and Putnam County is expanding how residents can share information with law enforcement by adding an online option for submitting anonymous tips.
Since 1998, the organization has been known for “making the call that pays.” Now, tips about crimes or individuals wanted by local authorities can be submitted through an online form. The link is available at the bottom of the Allen County Sheriff’s Office website or at the Crime Stoppers webpage.
In addition to submitting information, users can browse listings of people wanted for crimes in the region, as well as unsolved homicide cases that continue to seek crucial leads.
Law enforcement officials say the new online platform will help Crime Stoppers reach more community members.
“The younger generations, all they want to do is be online. So this, this is a simple transition for them, probably a harder transition for us, because it's something that's been a long time coming, but just just having the board members the way we were, and everybody is affected by change, but now that we have changed and things are moving forward, it's been great for the future, and it's going to be great for the future, and it should help us apprehend more criminals on the streets of Lima & Allen County,” said Allen County Sheriff Matt Treglia.
“Crime Stoppers is a great tool for us, and upgrading it to where people can make online tips instead of just having to make the phone call, we're hoping that we'll get more traction with that, and partnering with the communities is a big part the people are already in the neighborhoods. They might they may see these people, they may know who these people are, and if they can make that anonymous tip, it would be really helpful for us to work together to make those neighborhoods a little safer,” said Lima Police Chief Curtis Hile.
Residents who prefer calling can still submit anonymous tips by phone at 419-229-7867.
