LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The Lima Kiwanis Club is continuing its efforts to make homecoming affordable for area families.
This Saturday, the group will host its “Diva’s Den” at the Lima Masonic Center on North Cole Street. The event offers high school students the chance to select from a collection of gently used dresses at no cost.
The gowns are donated to the Kiwanis Club and cleaned by Duffy Cleaners in preparation for the dance. Organizers say the program began to ensure the cost of a dress would not prevent a young person from attending homecoming.

“We found that there was real need for it, not only from a financial point of view, but so many of the stores that sold that kind of thing are no longer here, and we’re finding girls are finding it harder and harder to get a dress, and so they come there, they find what they want, and it saves their parents a great deal of money,” said Candi Newland of the Lima Kiwanis Club.
“Diva’s Den” will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lima Masonic Center. Newland encourages families to arrive early for the best selection.
