ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) — Elida High School’s Future Farmers of America chapter hosted a blood drive Wednesday.
Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood or platelets, and students stepped up to help. Dozens of students donated during the school day, supporting local blood supplies. Organizers said there is also an incentive: students who donate three times during their high school careers earn a cord to wear at graduation.
“It’s good to start young and keep doing it throughout your life, because everyone needs blood. It’s an ongoing thing,” said Aaliyah Cash, a senior FFA student at Elida High School. “It’s never going to change. It’s always going to be something that’s in high demand. It’s good to start now, while you’re young, because then you’re already registered. You don’t have to go through the process again.”
The Elida FFA hosts three blood drives throughout the school year.
