LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Students at Heritage Elementary in the Lima City Schools District took time Tuesday to honor the veterans in their lives through music, reflection and appreciation.
The school’s Veterans Day celebration included musical performances, a guest speaker and the reading of thank-you letters written by students. Administrators say the event helps young people gain a deeper understanding of the meaning behind the holiday and the sacrifices made by those who served.

“I think it's very important for our students to know what our veterans did for our country and the freedoms that we now have because of our veterans,” said Bethany Zambori, Heritage assistant principal.
Lima City Schools Superintendent Andre Rudolph echoed that sentiment.
“Ms. Miller said it best - freedom isn't free, and our veterans, they've paid that price for us day in and day out countlessly, and so it's great to be able to recognize them, but also just to make sure that our babies understand what it means to give service to this to this great nation.”
For veterans who were unable to attend the celebration in person, the school displayed photos to pair them with their student or staff family member, ensuring every service member connected to the Heritage community was recognized.
