LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Downtown Lima will soon have a new public art installation designed to serve as a photo opportunity for residents and visitors.

ArtSpace/Lima, Visit Greater Lima and Apollo Career Center partnered on the "I Am Lima" project, featuring oversized letters spelling "LIMA." Visitors will be able to stand in place of the "I" to take photos. Apollo students designed and welded the steel letters, which will be installed on a platform along North Main Street in front of ArtSpace/Lima.

"We love doing these kind of projects. It's good for the students to do something that's out of the normal. This isn't something normal for my advanced manufacturing class but it was good collaboration between my program and the weld program, the students had to work together," said Mike Dicke, advanced manufacturing instructor at Apollo Career Center.

"The final project, when we get it out here will be a big celebration because we're going to ask other people to maybe come in and paint. So we'll have something that will be really unique to Lima, but also something that will be a great photo op that people will come here for," said Sally Windle, executive director of ArtSpace/Lima.

The letters are expected to be installed within the next month. Updates on the installation and grand opening celebration will be posted on ArtSpace/Lima's Facebook page.
