LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A must-see professional movie screening was held over at the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board.
Jegna Lima teamed up with Dr. Karen Baptiste in targeting the imbalances within the countries' educational school system through her 12-time award-winning film "Preschool to Prison." The documentary ties into the corporation's mission of informing the community's youth and families they serve through challenging topics and conversations. Jegna CEO, Emmanuel Curtis hopes the Lima community takes this opportunity to listen and learn.
"The topic of the preschool to prison pipeline is becoming more mainstream. Ohio State is doing a course on the school to prison pipeline. We want to push things to the forefront and bring awareness to it. Because again, as long as there are disparities related to youth, black males, in particular, females, or just children overall, or our families, you always have to push this information out there. So, it's very important, always relevant. We just have to do the best job we can, to be receptive of it. I know the title and topic is scary. You know, to people, it's intimidating, but that's why you seek information, because once you have knowledge, you eliminate that, that process of fear," told Curtis.
You can catch the second screening of "Preschool to Prison" at the Vibe Coffeehouse & Cafe tomorrow evening at 5:30 PM.
