LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Families gathered on Friday morning at the Lima Public Library for Family Friday Story Time.
The reading program brought out kids and their parents for a morning full of books and arts and crafts. Father's Day is Sunday, so the kids got creative and helped make a special present for their dads. Kids that are involved in the summer reading challenge can also use story time to go towards their point totals and reading checklist. Officials from the library know that the kids and even the parents look forward to this calm and creative get together.

"A lot of families, especially the moms, they'll see each other, and they'll catch up with what's going on - they'll be like, 'Oh, hey, did you have the baby?' and sometimes they'll show off the new baby, and a lot of the kids are able to socialize and meet with other kids and start learning social cues and what they're doing," said Becca Gunter, a librarian at the Lima Public Library. "Some of the crafts we do teach them such things as fine motor skills, scissor skills, coloring stuff like that. The kids actually get to be able to talk, learn about stories, and we do some questions and answers when we do read the stories, so the kids can understand the plot and what's going on."
The Family Friday Story Time dates for the summer season are June 27th, July 11th, July 25th and August 8th starting at 10 am at the Lima Public Library in the Children's Room upstairs.
It is free and open to the public.
