Lima Beane Chorus Delivers Singing Valentines Across Lima-Allen County

These "Singing Valentines" include one or two songs performed in perfect harmony and a single rose for the special recipient.

Each Valentine's Day, the quartet surprises unsuspecting recipients with serenades requested by their loved ones. These "Singing Valentines" include one or two songs performed in perfect harmony and a single rose for the special recipient. We caught up with the chorus at the Allen County Council on Aging, where Myra Moneer received a singing telegram from her husband of 57 years.

“It was great. It was a great surprise,” Myra said. “There was another lady that got flowers here in the office, so I got to thinking. I thought, ‘What’s he going to do? He’s always got a surprise.’”

Tarry Moneer, Myra’s husband, explained his thought process. “That’s the truth. I was trying to figure out what to do that I haven’t done before all these years,” he said. “One of the guys in our choir is in the quartet, so we arranged to have them come up and sing to her. I know it was a surprise for her.”

Terry Reichenbach, vice president of performance and marketing for the chorus, shared the range of reactions they encounter. “It’s a different experience everywhere you go. You get tears, you get laughter, you get embarrassment—a little bit of all the emotions,” he said.

The Singing Valentines have been a fundraiser for the Lima Beane Chorus for more than 30 years.
