LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - School and community members came out Monday evening for an open house to wish Lima City Schools Superintendent Jill Ackerman well as she nears retirement.

Ackerman spent her entire 37-and-a-half-year career with Lima City Schools. She joined the district in 1988 as a substitute teacher and eventually became a full-time special education teacher, working in several buildings. At North Middle School, Ackerman served as assistant principal before becoming principal. In 2002, she was named the district’s assistant superintendent, and in 2012, she took over as superintendent. As she approaches retirement, Ackerman reflected on the impact she has had on Lima City Schools.

Ackerman spent her entire 37-and-a-half-year career with Lima City Schools.

“I have had a lot of occasions in the last, probably, 15 years where I’ve had former students who are now parents approach me 'hey, do you remember me? You were my principal. You were my teacher' talking about the impact that I had on them in their lives. That's what meant the most of anything. Always being able to stand up and fight for public education,” says Jill Ackerman, Superintendent, Lima City Schools.

Ackerman’s last day is July 31. Andre Rudolph, of Reynoldsburg City Schools, will begin serving as the district’s next superintendent in August.
