LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A lot to take away from the Lima City Schools funding update meeting.

Superintendent Andre Rudolph and treasurer Heather Sharp brought the community the numbers for the current financial state of the school district. Both speakers broke down the numbers, how they affected different departments, and what the next steps were. One main takeaway was the deduction costs. According to the speakers, current legislation has made many public schools in Ohio perform budget cuts. This also has affected lima city schools. This could mean larger classroom size, fewer staff, and cuts in transportation for students. Many community members also brought their input on the matter.

Lima City Schools face budget deficit as community voices concerns at funding meeting

"We've only started this process, we still have a current deficit, we're still deficit spending. At some point, your revenue and your expenses have to meet. So, at some point we either get more money, or we further reduce," says Andre Rudolph, superintendent of Lima City Schools.

We also asked some teachers and community members about their takeaways from this meeting.

"We need to make sure that the people that we are electing or thinking about electing, we need to make sure that they are going to support our school system," says Taminka Malloy, a paraprofessional teaching assistant for Lima City Schools.

Many other community members shared their concerns with the funding and deficit, questioning where and how expenses are being spent, and lima city schools plans to hold more meetings to hear more input.
