LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — To celebrate 60 years of making an impact in the city, the Lima Community Foundation is investing in youth programs and inspiring the arts.

Recipients of the foundation’s 60th anniversary grants were announced this week, totaling $60,000 from the Lima Community Foundation and an additional $20,000 from the Martha S. MacDonell Arts Fund. The grants reflect the foundation’s long-standing commitment to creating opportunities for young people and enriching the community through the arts.

Those receiving the funding say the support will significantly strengthen their programs. Joan Collar, president of the Lima Area Tennis Association, said the grant will help cover costs for youth programming.

“All of our programs for kids are free. We have a two week summer camp that we run every year since about 1979 and then we also have a winter camp, and that's what this grant is for, to help defray some of the costs of winter camp.”

David Jackson of the Lima Music Academy said the funding will help remove transportation barriers for students.

“There's a population in the city that can't afford to get transportation to come to our programming and take our private lessons. So we'd like to add a transportation component to our programming so that we can get the kids to private lessons.”

A community grant was awarded to the Lima Aquatic Park. Youth grants were given to the Bradfield Community Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio and the Lima Area Tennis Association.

Arts grants were awarded to Mentoring With Music, ArtSpace Lima, the Lima Music Academy and the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
