Lima job-seekers graduate from career training program

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A group of Lima job-seekers is one step closer to launching new careers.

The National Center for Urban Solutions (NCUS) held a graduation ceremony Tuesday to celebrate participants in its “Untapped Workforce” program. The nonprofit works with the West Central Ohio Manufacturing Partnership to provide individuals with soft skills, interview training, and job opportunities. Seven graduates were honored during the ceremony.

“Some of the 'Untapped Workforce' are people who need second chances,” said Atria Knuckles, program manager at NCUS. “Whether they have felonies or they just need an opportunity to get a job — maybe they haven’t worked before or they’re not sure what they want to do.”

Quincy Peoples, a career coach for the organization, emphasized the program’s overall mission.

“Our goal is to provide soft skills and the training participants need to get a job — and keep a job,” Peoples said. “We give them the chance to interview in front of employers and sell themselves.”

Tuesday’s graduates have secured jobs with local manufacturers, and additional employment opportunities are expected in the near future.
