LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — It was a day for kids at the fair as families gathered for the annual Youth Day.
Children ages 15 and younger were admitted free until 6 p.m., giving them the opportunity to enjoy a day filled with activities, rides and games.
The midway was busy with children of all ages looking for their favorite rides and games. Youth Day also featured a variety of activities, including a fishing derby, a cherry pie eating contest sponsored by Kewpee and a tractor pull for youngsters.
Several children shared what they enjoy most about the fair.
Sophia Stauffer said she was excited about visiting the bunny barn.
"I'm excited about the bunny barn. Why? Because I really love bunnies and one time I actually got to snuggle some."
Owen Caldwell said his favorite part was the chicken barn.
"My favorite thing was the chicken farm because I got a pet, a chicken. Pretty cool.
Yes, and I had a great time."
Raelynn Hall said she enjoys spending time with friends at the fair.
"I do 4-H and my favorite stuff is probably to ride rides and hang out with my friend right here."
George Caldwell said he enjoys visiting the rabbit barn.
"My favorite thing is the rabbits because I like the rabbits and they're super fluffy."
For Karlie Baker, the rides are a favorite.
"I like the pirate ship and I really like the 101 Notches or Nights or I don't know what it is. It's really fun. They just go up high and feel like you're swinging in the air. It's pretty fun."
Tatum Caldwell said the dairy barn is her favorite part of the fair.
"My favorite thing is the dairy farm and yes, I'm having a lot of fun.
Why the dairy farm? Because there's a bunch of cows that I get to pet, and my favorite one's name is Brittany."
The fair will continue Tuesday with Senior Citizens Day. Anyone 60 years old and older will be admitted free until 6 p.m.
A Golden Age Day party will also be held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Gospel Tent.
