LIMA, Oh (WLIO) – More than 100,000 men, women and children are on the national transplant list, but people can make a difference by becoming organ donors.
April is National Donate Life Month, and Lima Memorial Health System is raising awareness about the importance of organ donation. Throughout the month, the hospital will fly a flag outside the emergency room as a reminder to sign up.

According to national statistics, more than 48,000 transplants were performed last year, with kidneys, livers and hearts being the most commonly transplanted organs.
If you are considering becoming an organ donor, Lima Memorial’s Emergency Center Director recommends talking with others about your decision.
“You know, talking to your loved ones, if they are actually registered donors, and talking about the gift of life. You can go to www.donatelife.net. It's a great resource. Has lots of different information facts, and you can actually check your registration status as well as you can become a registered donor on the website,” says Richelle Nagel, Emergency Center Director, LMHS.
Statistics show that a single organ donor can help save up to eight lives and enhance more than 75 others.
