Following the oath of office, the chapter began discussing its top priorities.
Following the oath of office, the chapter began discussing its top priorities. One major focus is how federal government actions may impact the local community. The Trump administration continues to halt federal funding for various programs, and Chapter President Ron Fails emphasized the need for the local branch to step in if these cuts affect programs aiding African Americans.
“We don't know long-term what the impact of that will be and what it will mean in terms of people filing lawsuits, complaints, reaching out to agencies like ours for help. I just think we're in right now a territory that we've never been in, or at least we haven't been in for a long, long time, and we now have to play our part in helping our nation to survive it, work through it, and hopefully, in the end, come out the better because of it,” said Ron Fails, president of the Lima Chapter of the NAACP.
Fails added that the chapter will continue to advocate for voter registration and encourage voter turnout during the upcoming elections.
The officers for the Lima Chapter’s next two-year term are as follows:
- Ronald Fails, President
- Henry Houston, Vice President
- Issac Ulmer, Second Vice President
- Dawn Ehora, Secretary
- Charlene Smith-Echols, Treasurer
- Regina Freeman and Les Henderson, Executive Committee at Large members
