LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The Lima Rotary Club heard a special presentation on Monday about upcoming celebrations for America's 250th anniversary.
Mayor Sheretta Smith along with community leaders spoke about events happening at the local and state level in celebration of America 250. Many of these events have taken years of planning and are designed to highlight Ohio's place in our nation's history.
Mayor Sheretta Smith along with community leaders spoke about events happening at the local and state level in celebration of America 250.
"Really all across the state we're highlighting what is Ohio's contribution to America's story, and so one event that we've done is we've painted barns all across the state with the America 250 logo," Smith said. "There's a signature event called Ohio Goes to the Movies where we are highlighting in all 88 counties throughout the state whether a movie was made in a specific location, whether it was written by an Ohioan or whether there are Ohioans in front of the screen."
The Star Spangled Spectacular will be even bigger this year, with new activities including a drone show in coordination with the fireworks. With a day full of activities, it takes a lot of volunteers to put on the celebration.
"When I get to actually go and work the event, I always do the race with my 15 Superior volunteers in the morning, and it's really rewarding to see the kind of thing you're putting on for people because these things don't just happen with a donation," said Superior Credit Union Marketing Director Kelsey Joseph. "They also happen with people who care and who give up their time."
