LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Candidates for the Lima City School Board of Education answered voter questions Tuesday night ahead of the Nov. 4 election.
Hosted by the Lima Education Association, candidates Heather Rutz and Sandra Jean Baes Monfort participated in the first annual “Meet the Candidates.” On Election Day, Lima residents will vote to fill two seats on the Lima School Board. Following the public question-and-answer session, Your News Now spoke with the candidates about why they are campaigning for a seat and their visions for the Lima City Schools if elected.

"My main motivator is our son who has received just an excellent education here at Lima City Schools. He's a junior now. Really want to just give back for all of that support that we've received and felt like this was a good next step for me to take. Mr. Rudolph really, the other day, laid out an audacious plan for us as a school district, improving our student learning outcomes while addressing our budget needs and navigating a state government that frankly is hostile to public education right now. And so, really- my main goal, if I were to get onto the school board, is to help our administration figure those things out," says Heather Rutz, Candidate for Lima City School Board.
"I've been privileged to be on the Lima City School Board before. The election is coming up, and the possibility of getting on the board, once again, made a lot of sense to me. My interest in bringing what I can to the Lima City Board is, number one, get up-to-date on what's happened since I've been off the school board these last couple of years and see the direction that I learned a bit ago from the new superintendent to see what he sees on his journey and financially to recognize what our treasurer is working on and what we need to look at because there's so many things happening even each day," says Sandra Jean Baes Monfort, Candidate for Lima City School Board.
Incumbent and third candidate, Cindy Brownlow, did not participate in Tuesday night’s “Meet the Candidates.”
