LIMA, Ohio — As temperatures drop, a hot meal can make a critical difference for people struggling to stay warm and fed, and for some, that meal may only come once a day. Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen offers not only food, but a place for fellowship and relief from the cold.
The kitchen, located at 125 South Central Avenue, has operated at its current site since 2001. It has provided meals in some form since its inception in the 1990s by the former Church People for Change and Reconciliation organization. Staff members say the mission they provide is not criteria-based and aims to serve anyone who walks through the door.
Director Randy Kimpell said the center remains active throughout the day. “We’re open for everybody and anybody, but we’re open from 8:30 to five. You know, even in between the meals, we’re still open. We have a lot of people that come here first thing in the morning and are here till we close it at night.”
In addition to meals, Our Daily Bread provides blankets, sleeping bags, travel-sized personal hygiene products and other items to people in need. The organization relies heavily on community donations to meet those needs.
