LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Allen County veterans now have a place to stay out of the weather while waiting for transportation to medical appointments following the grand opening of the Allen County Veterans Transportation Center.
The new center features two garages designed to protect transportation vans from the elements while also giving veterans shelter when arriving for rides to appointments.
Providing transportation to VA-approved medical appointments is one of the primary missions of the Allen County Veterans Service Commission. Officials announced that the transportation program is expanding to include rides for veterans attending local private medical appointments in addition to VA visits.
“We're expanding our transportation program, and we will now offer transportation to our local veterans to local private medical appointments. They do not have to be VA appointments,” said Tamara Wilson, executive director of the Allen County Veterans Service Commission. “So if you're a veteran, or if you know a veteran that may need transportation to and from a medical appointment, please contact us and we could provide that transportation to them at no cost.”
