LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague was the keynote speaker at the Allen County GOP luncheon on Friday, addressing updates from the state treasurer’s office and announcing his plans to run in the 2026 primary election for Ohio secretary of state.
Sprague, a Findlay native, discussed the political landscape of northwest Ohio and the state as a whole. One key issue he addressed was the avian flu outbreak, which has significantly impacted farmers in the region. He highlighted a program within the treasurer’s office designed to offer financial assistance to affected farmers.

"We opened up a new window within our AgLink program; you can borrow up to $750,000 that's unprecedented, within the treasurer's office," said Sprague. "You can get up to a 3% discount on that loan and for up to a two year period, it's a special window that we're opening up just for those farmers that are affected by the avian flu. We know that's driving the prices of eggs, so you know that the pain you're feeling at the grocery store, it's nothing to the pain these farmers are feeling in our communities."
Regarding his future campaign for Ohio secretary of state, Sprague emphasized his commitment to serving Ohioans and protecting their voting rights.
"I want to serve my state and I want to serve it well - the foundation of our republic is the ability for you to trust the legitimacy of your elected representatives inside the Republic, and your rights aren't protected unless your vote is," said Sprague. "You can't exercise those rights, and you can't protect those rights unless you're able to vote at the ballot box. That'll be my job as secretary of state, and I want to be able to do it well for the people of the state of Ohio."
His term as state treasurer will continue through the end of 2026, at which point he hopes to secure the Republican nomination for secretary of state.
