SHAWNEE, Ohio (WLIO) - The Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition teamed up with Shawnee responders and school leaders to kick off the click it or ticket campaign.

To encourage drivers to think responsibly, many Shawnee organizations and responders collaborated to reward those who were wearing seatbelts. In a drive-thru style, if the driver had a seatbelt on, they were given a coupon for a Mcflurry. Guest speakers were also invited to bring awareness and advice to the crowd. The Shawnee superintendent, alongside the Shawnee police chief, and fire chief spoke on their perspectives of driving safety, as well as how to make the right decisions behind the wheel.

"Especially young people. When they have just a short trip, whether it's to and from school, to and from a practice, or to and from the grocery store, it's important that we, as adults, set ourselves as role models, and make sure every time we're in the car, the first thing we do is buckle up, and make sure our kids are buckled up," says Don Diglia, superintendent for Shawnee Schools.

Officials encourage drivers to click their seatbelt or face the legal consequences.
