LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The wrong decision behind the wheel can alter your life — and the lives of others — forever. That was the lesson students at Temple Christian School learned Monday during the Save a Life Tour.
Thanks to a grant, the Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition brings driving simulators to area schools. One simulation mimicked how being impaired can affect driving, while the other focused on texting and driving, highlighting how even briefly taking their eyes off the road could be dangerous.

“They have to answer a question that pops up and meanwhile, they have to look down, and they have to look back up and concentrate on where they are. And it's just fun to watch because it's not real, the dangers and crashing and going off road. Hopefully it's a wake up call to them that they shouldn't be doing that in real life,” said Megan Kinnear of the Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition.
After a short time in the simulator, the Temple Christian Pioneers learned valuable lessons about the outcomes of bad decisions behind the wheel.
“Really cool, just to get a look of what would happen if you're drunk driving. And it definitely is a real experience, and it is not fun,” said Isaiah Kiser, senior at Temple Christian.
“You hear about it in Driver's Ed. We are 15, and now we're 18, and we get to actually, you know, we're going to the real world, and we've been driving for a little bit, and we we tend to get tend to get comfortable and think we could handle it, but with these simulators, it's a safe way to realize we cannot handle it at all,” said Emma Engle, senior at Temple Christian.
The Save a Life Tour has visited seven Allen County schools this school year.
