LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – A rainy Monday morning didn’t stop the kickoff of the City of Lima’s Summer Parks Program.

The program, which is open to children ages 6 to 12, gives kids the chance to spend their summer meeting new friends and learning more about themselves. Throughout the eight-week program, participants will go on field trips, hear from guest speakers, take part in a variety of activities, and, of course, play games. Program advisors say the growth they see in the children over the summer is one of the most rewarding aspects.

Summer Parks Program offers games, trips, and personal growth for Lima youth

The program gives kids the chance to spend their summer meeting new friends and learning more about themselves.

“You have a lot of kids that come that first day. They don't know anybody. They're pretty quiet. It's hard to get them out of their shell, but by the end of the summer, it's fun to see the friends that they've made and the relationships they've made with the leaders and things like that, and just see them come out of their shell and show their little personality. It's fun to see all the growth that the kids make,” said Kelsey Pughsley, Lima Recreation Leader.

Special events planned this summer include field trips to the Allen County Museum, bowling, and roller skating. Kids will also have the opportunity to participate in science and art projects and enjoy a visit from a comedian.
