LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A longtime employee of the Lima YMCA is retiring after more than four decades of service to the organization she calls her home away from home.

Terri Averesch is retiring after 44 years with the Lima YMCA. During her tenure, she worked in a variety of roles, including fitness, aquatics and membership. Averesch said she valued the family atmosphere at the Y, which experienced significant growth in 1998 with the construction of its current facility.

“The biggest change during my time here at the Y was the building of this Y, and worried about whether we could get, you know, the community, to support and then we tripled our membership when we got here. And with all of the collaborations that we have, it's just been really great to see this building thrive,” says Terri Averesch, retiring after 44 years with Lima YMCA.

Averesch credited the organization’s success to strong community support throughout the years.

“We love the support of the community, and the mayors supported us, and the parks have helped with our youth sports, and it's just really helped the Y stay in Downtown Line and help the community,” adds Averesch.

Although retiring from her daily responsibilities, Averesch said she plans to continue visiting the YMCA regularly to work out. She added that she is looking forward to no longer starting work at 5 a.m. or staying until 10 p.m. at the Y.
