LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Students at the University of Northwestern Ohio had the opportunity to connect with employers from across the region during the university’s annual Fall Career Fair.

Hundreds of UNOH students explored potential job opportunities as more than 60 businesses set up booths on campus, offering students a chance to network, ask questions, and learn about different industries.

Events like the career fair help bridge the gap between students and the workforce by allowing them to meet potential employers and explore future career paths. Many students came prepared with specific goals in mind.

“I'm wanting to open my own shop later down the road, but I'm hoping to look for a Heavy Diesel shop,” said Jamie Benefiel, a second-year Heavy Diesel and Agriculture student. “Once I get out of here, I plan to work there for about 15 years, probably, and then hopefully open my own shop with my parents.”

“Hoping to find a new job to go to when I graduate,” said Monte Treesh, a fourth-year Automotive Technology student. “Kind of just seeing what's out there, testing the waters.”

The career fair also gives students the opportunity to arrange formal interviews with company representatives, helping them take the next step toward future employment.

Jacob Hixenbaugh, UNOH’s director of career services, said the event is designed to help students make meaningful professional connections. “It's all about having students build their network and get out to meet employers, see what kind of benefits they offer, what kind of job and environment they want to work in, and make contacts so that when they get ready to graduate, they can get hired,” he said.
