Arby's East Suffers Grease Fire

A lunch hour fire shuts down an eastside eatery for the day.

Lima Fire called to the Arby's restaurant on Bellefontaine Avenue just before the noon hour Wednesday.

Battalion Chief Greg Kirkendall says the call came in as a grease fire that got out of control.

The restaurants dry chemicals system deployed and employees used extinguishers to try and put the fire out.

The building was evacuated. No one was hurt.

Kirkendall says they had to pull the fryer from the wall to make sure the fire was out.

The restaurant did fill with smoke.

Kirkendall puts the damage estimate at 5-thousand dollars and says there will have to be a lot of cleanup because of the dry chemicals that activated.
