LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Area high school seniors spent the day learning the basics of homeownership.

The Community Outreach Committee of the West Central Association of Realtors hosted its fourth annual homeownership seminar, bringing together more than 300 students from eight area schools. Students took part in classroom sessions on budgeting, credit and debit cards, and the steps involved in buying a home.

The West Central Association of Realtors says the goal is to help students better understand financial responsibilities as they take the next steps into adulthood.

“I can speak from my own experience, and you know, many times we just aren't aware of all that goes into becoming a homeowner. At some point in time, they're going to think about it because we pretty much all do at some point in time. We all need some place to live,” said Mary Blanche Hengstler, administrative assistant for the West Central Association of Realtors.

Hengstler added that the organization hopes to continue the seminar for years to come.
