Auglaize County commissioner attends White House meeting held to connect with communities

More than 80 county commissioners and other local officials from Ohio participated in a White House meeting aimed at building stronger relationships with communities.

A White House spokesman says the meeting Tuesday featured policy discussions with White House staff members as well as presentations from various federal agencies.

Participants came from more than half of Ohio's 88 counties.

They included 27 chairs of county commissions. One of which was Auglaize County Commissioner Doug Spencer who said there were many takeaways from the meeting.

He said the biggest one was that the White House agencies have an open door policy to hear from local government.

"It's just that keeping the dialogue between the local government and the federal government - All three are important. It was a great opportunity and well worth the time to travel to DC for this conference," said Doug Spencer, Auglaize County Commissioner.

Spencer says he plans to submit proposals to White House agencies now that he knows they are more accessible.
