Auglaize County Residents Against Proposed Wind Farm

An industrial wind turbine facility could soon be coming to Northern Auglaize County.

US Mainstream Renewable Power is in the early stages of talking to landowners about a proposal that would bring 50 turbines to the area which has some very concerned.

Local residents have formed an anti-wind turbine group called Auglaize Neighbors United, which held the first of three informational meetings this weekend. While discussing some positives of wind farms, the focus was on health concerns, decrease in property values, and issues such as shadow flicker, an effect caused by rotating turbine blades casting a shadow on nearby buildings and through windows.

Among the speakers was Van Wert resident Milo Schaffner. Once an advocate for wind, he has since changed his mind after the farms came to Hoaglin Township.

Despite his personal opposition to wind farms, Schaffner encourages people to educate themselves on the issue.
