ST. MARYS, Ohio (WLIO) – The Saint Marys Opera House showcased its new outdoor pavilion Sunday afternoon with the launch of its first summer concert series.
Four musical acts took the stage as part of the monthly event, which will continue on the first Sunday of each month through October. It’s been four years since the Friends of the St. Marys Theater and Grand Opera House took over the building and began extensive renovations, including the addition of the pavilion and seating area for concerts and other community events. While Sunday marked the inaugural concert at the venue, more entertainment is planned next weekend as part of St. Marys Summerfest.

“Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night, we will have entertainment here, plus revealing who the major sponsor is of this pavilion. And it's going to be a lot of fun to let people know who it is. It's been under wraps for a year, and I think people are going to be excited to find out that this area extends beyond St Mary's, so we're very excited to reveal that next week, and it just shows all of the great possibilities that the theater has, that the outside venue has to make St Mary's a destination point,” said Doug Spencer of the Friends of the St. Marys Theater and Grand Opera House.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the St. Marys Theater and Grand Opera House Pavilion will take place Saturday, Aug. 9, at 5:45 p.m., following the Summerfest parade. The event will include the sponsor reveal, as well as appearances by state lawmakers and representatives from the Ohio Historic Preservation Office to recognize the importance of the project.
