WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) - Kids don’t usually run in the halls at Wapakoneta Elementary School, but Friday was an exception!
To support the cause, students organized creative fundraisers throughout the year, including “Tattoo the Teacher,” “Pennies for Presidents,” and a bubblegum sale.
Students walked and ran during the school’s annual Ronald’s Walk. Each year, students raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities, and the walk serves as the culminating event. To support the cause, students organized creative fundraisers throughout the year, including “Tattoo the Teacher,” “Pennies for Presidents,” and a bubblegum sale. During Ronald’s Walk, Wapakoneta City Schools teacher Nick Truesdale shared why the effort is so meaningful to him. He and his family once stayed at a Ronald McDonald House during a time of need.
“This benefits every single family who has ever stayed at the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House provides food, shelter, a place to shower, and really just an escape from the children's hospital. My son was in the hospital for over 200 days, so it was our home away from home. We got to take our daughter down there. They had a place that's there, things for older kids, too. It's a home away from home. It's bringing families together, and the motto that these kids all say all year: kids helping kids," says Nick Truesdale, 4th grade teacher, Wapakoneta City Schools.Â
Last year, students raised more than $19,000 through the yearlong fundraiser.
