CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) - Ohio Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel visited Tri Star Career Compact in Celina on Thursday.
Tri Star provides career-technical education to students from nine school districts in Mercer and Auglaize counties. Tressel, who has emphasized workforce development, selected the school for its innovative career training model. The career training programs aim to prepare students for high-demand jobs in industries like agriculture and healthcare.
“This facility shows young people here’s the opportunities, here’s the training, you don’t need to get in a whole bunch of debt, and there’s jobs for you right here. That really, in my mind, working so hard on workforce, that really meets the needs we have in Ohio. We have so many opportunities in Ohio, we have to make sure we fill them,” Tressel said.
“We’re the only compact in Ohio that’s a standalone. So, other compacts are part of other schools attached to them like we used to be. We just think we’re a little different. Career tech is just different anyway, but kids love coming out here, and it’s a great career, and it’s a great start in your career if you choose us,” said Director Tim Buschur.
The career tech program saw a 96% graduation rate this past spring, something the school says they're looking to keep up.
