WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) – A man who tried to escape custody in Auglaize County earlier this year will spend more than nine years in prison after accepting a plea deal.

Nathaniel Nix, 37, was sentenced to nine and a half to 12 years behind bars after pleading guilty to felonious assault, fleeing and eluding, obstructing official business, and vandalism. The other charges he faced, including assault of a police officer, were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

On Feb. 4, an Auglaize County judge revoked Nix’s bond in another case when he broke out a courthouse window and ran from the building. While driving away in his SUV, Nix briefly dragged a deputy who was attempting to stop him. The deputy suffered minor injuries.

He was later spotted in Lima, where a chase began through the city and continued north on Interstate 75. When the pursuit reached Wood County, law enforcement officers were able to remotely disable Nix’s vehicle before taking him into custody.

Nix was also ordered to pay about $700 in restitution.
